Alfred Maine
Alfred,
Maine is an area of Maine once called "Massabesic,"
by the original inhabitants, the Abenaki Native Americans.
"Massabesic" means "large pond," pr "place
of much water."
Yhe first
permanent settlement in Alfred, Maine was established in 1770,
as the north parish of Sanford. In 1808, the Ajfred, Maine
was officially incorporated, and named after King Alfred the
Great.
