Kennebunk
Maine
Kennebunk
Maine was established in 1820 and has a population of 10,000.
The word "Kennebunk"
means "long cut bank," thought to be so named by indigenous
people, to refer to the area around Great Hill at Kennebunk
Beach. This landmark would have been clearly visible to early
sea travelers.
It is believed
that Kennebunk was a destination for early 'travelers', as long
ago as 11,000 years. Indigenous people traveled to the ocean
during the summer months to fish, and hunted bison and caribou
on the Kennebunk plain.
